The Elgin Railway Market is fast becoming a leading player in the boom of food and craft markets in the Western Cape of South Africa. The attention to detail and ability to wow visitors with unique designs is leaving impressions on people from all around the world. Roger Orpen had the grand vision of turning an old apple warehouse, situated next to the train tracks, and turning it into a unique tourist hot spot. Industrial Designer, Corban Warrington was asked to join this journey to create a new and unique market that would leave an impression. Inspired by the barn’s railway-side setting, creative cues were taken from the invention of the steam engine and the industrial age to expose the raw beauty of industrial manufacturing. This, combined with the elegance and attentive styles of Art Deco and the Victorian era helped create the Elgin Railway Market that is unlike any other market in South Africa. This is the testament of designer, Corban Warrington and his insights into the journey.
