So you've decided to raise an antiracist child. No doubt something profound has brought you to this crossroads. For many parents, the death of George Floyd, who died after an officer kneeled on his neck for nearly 9 minutes, was the catalyst.
For me, it was an evolution that took place over years but culminated in watching an unabashed display of white supremacy at the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017.
I understood then what hadn't been clear to me before: If I raise my children with good intentions when it comes to race — praising equality, dignity, and fairness without actually teaching them how to be antiracist — I will have failed them and this country.
