In spite of how impressive the glaciers may seem today, strictly speaking, they are only small segments of what was the last glaciation. In any case, these have a remarkable importance occupying 10% of the emerging lands and hoarding 90% of the fresh water of the area. They generate currents of air and water that contribute to balance the Earth's climate.
