WHEN Lucas Wood’s sixth birthday was coming up he told his friends not to give him toys or games as presents.
Instead, he asked for things he could give to a food bank.
Now the youngster, a pupil at Oughtrington Primary School, Lymm, has scores of items to give to a foodbank for distribution to the needy.
Mum Minnie said: “We were blown away by people’s generosity.”
She said: “Lucas has two younger siblings so our house already looks like a toy shop. But we often talk about plastic, the environment and waste so I suggested a food bank to him.
“I was over the moon when he said he thought it was an excellent idea. How many six-year-olds will say no to presents. I was amazed.
“I was a bit apprehensive telling other parents what our plan was, but I didn’t need to be. They all thought it was an amazing idea and a few even said they’ll think of doing something similar.
“I hope this will inspire others.”
In his spare time, Lucas enjoys gymnastics and plays football. But he also loves jigsaws and Lego.
