Good news for motorists in east Warrington

MOTORISTS in East Warrington have been given good news – the Birchwood Way westbound closure is to end on Monday.
The route – part of the £10.8m Warrington East Phase 2 project –  is due to be re-opened three weeks earlier than anticipated in advance of the peak traffic period.
In place since August, the closure was to enable major works which will reduce congestion and improve road safety along the Birchwood Way corridor.
The borough council’s lead member for highways, transportation and public realm, Cllr Hans Mundry, said:  “The Warrington East phase 2 project is making good progress, and I’m delighted that this route is re-opening ahead of schedule.
“It’s great news for the residents of the east of the borough and regular commuters to Birchwood Park, particularly in the run up to Christmas.”
Warrington East phase 2  – which follows the success of the Birchwood Pinchpoint (phase 1) – aims to improve traffic flow in east Warrington, focusing on improvements at the key junctions of Blackbrook Avenue roundabout, College Place roundabout and Oakwood Gate roundabout.
Scheduled to complete in December 2019, the project will also provide better pedestrian and cycling facilities; and improve network reliability, supporting the Birchwood Enterprise Zone and Birchwood Park, and improving access to employment and commercial sites.
Balfour Beatty are delivering the works through the Scape Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Framework.
