Although I live close to Milford Sound (Piopiotahi), it’s not a part of Fiordland I photograph much these days, instead focussing more on the other 99% of surrounding wilderness. However, I was after a ‘classic’ Milford image to be apart of my portfolio, so here it is. This somewhat encompasses what I consider all the elements that make this place so special. Read the rest for yourself; in Italian if you can. I came across this extraordinary scene while walking aimlessly in the Polish countryside. I had almost no hope to see any trace of colour in the sky, at the end of a grey and rainy day. The brownish tint reminded me of Dante’s immortal verses. They also happened to resonate with some recent events in my life, which have led me to some rather painful realisations. Winter is a strong reminder that exterior beauty is ephemeral, a vanishing shell unable to withstand the test of time. Lush foliage will fall and skeletal rotting remains will be forever exposed. Our three-week long vacation started in Venice, Italy. Spent a couple of days roaming around the heart of Venice - San Marco. I now know why Venice gets that 20 million tourists visit per year. It's like living in the Renaissance period during our entire stay. Zero cars and just gondolas, winding canals, very old churches, towers, bridges, and houses. I am not a fan of doing photography when in the city but this time I knew I had to make an exception. Can’t complain when you are given this kind of light.
