Protesters give council the bird over development plans

VIDEO: PROTESTERS objecting to controversial developments across the town gave Warrington Borough Council “the bird” during a rally outside the town hall – three of them dressed as canaries!

Around 100 protesters turned up for the third Communities United rally, including three dressed as canaries – signifying fears over traffic pollution. Canaries were used in the mining industry to help detect poisonous gases.

The protesters gathered in the freezing cold to voice their opposition outside a meeting of the Full Council.

Cindy Maguire of Communities United, who organised the protest said:  “The purpose of this rally is to ensure that the elected officials of our town are under no illusion that we do not support their plans. It is our intention to make our voices heard until the council starts to listen.

“We hope to have a protest outside every council meeting so they know we are not going away.

“The council need to understand they have ignored the will of a significant number of people from this town.”

“The councillors are here to support us – not ignore us. If they won’t listen we have other options we will consider, including a judicial review.

“All our consultation has been ignored and we will do everything we can to protect our green spaces and health.”
