Latchford duo figure in county match

LATCHFORD Albion players Daniel Brown and Phil Woollacott both took to the field  to represent the North West Mens League against county rivals Yorkshire, with both players featuring heavily in a 26-12 victory.
Brown started at loose forward, while Woollacott was selected as hooker making some elusive darts from dummy half, including a fine break in the second half, ultimately leading to a score three tackles later.
Brown’s contribution was to lead from the front with some bone rattling hits against a large opposing Yorkshire pack, with one such hit on the hour mark, forcing an error and from the resulting scrum the NWML side crossed to take the lead at a pivotal stage of the game.
Next up for the players is the NWML Lionhearts tour to Italy of which Latchford are still seeking any further sponsors who wish to be involved in the players developments.
Any interested parties are invited to contact Albion chairman Mike Byron on 07769 788995.

ALBION’S own game involved a journey to league leaders Littleborough where, despite a valiant effort, they fell to defeat. But three late tries gave a lopsided look to the 42-12 scoreline.
The first half was a tense affair with Albion only trailing by 6 points at halftime, and only trailing by 12 at the hour mark. However the hosts found an additional gear at a pivotal time to consolidate their place at the top of NWML Division Five.
The hosts raced into an early lead, and caught Albion cold, with two converted tries in the opening 10 minutes of the game.
Albion’s response was to score the try of the game when wing Owen Nugent collected a kick on his own 10 metre line and found a gap in the Littleborough defence. He outpaced all defenders to score a fine individual effort, Rick Metcalfe converting.
The hosts scored again to restore their lead before, on the stroke of halftime, some good yards from the Albion pack, including Mal Mason and Ryan Palin making valuable yards, which allowed the platform for second row Chris Brown to barge his way over near to the posts making Metcalfe’s conversion a formality.
At half time the game was in the balance at 18-12 however that was as good as it got for the visitors.
The second half was a close encounter for the first 20 minutes with a solitary score from the hosts edging them further ahead.
Albion has spells of pressure upon the Littleborough line but could not find their way through a well organised defence, and a further score from the hosts put the result beyond doubt.
With Albion tiring the hosts score three tries in the final 15 minutes to leave the scoreline not showing a true reflection of the commitment shown by Albion.
