A WARRINGTON woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer only last November is to take part in a walk to raise awareness of the disease – and raise money.
Tracey Savage, 48, will take part in the Ovarian Cancer Walk in London in October.
She said: “Before I was diagnosed, I had no idea of the signs I should have been looking out for. I want to make sure other women are aware of the symptoms because lives can be saved by early diagnosis. We can spread the word together by signing up for the Ovarian Cancer Walk.”
Eleven women die every day from ovarian cancer, yet only 1 per cent of women in England can name a key symptom of the disease: needing to wee more often or more urgently.
Awareness of all four main symptoms of ovarian cancer – a bloated tummy, feeling full, tummy pain and needing to wee more – is alarmingly low across the UK, leaving women without crucial knowledge that could save lives.
The Ovarian Cancer Walk will raise awareness and funds and help more woman to get diagnosed earlier.
Groups can enter and walk, or run, 5km or 10km.
They can take friends, family, pets – and, most importantly, hundreds of others whose lives have been touched by ovarian cancer.
If you can’t make the London walk there is one in Edinburgh too – on October 13.
