AFTER months of careful planning tickets for the 11th Stockton Heath Festival are set to go on sale from Friday June 8.
Throughout the Festival the community comes together to celebrate art, music, drama, local culture and more. As a visitor to the event, what can you expect from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th July this year?
Taking a trip around the Festival during the day, beginning on the Festival Field you will find plenty of vibrant colour including face painting, balloons and bubbles, and stitching and sewing workshops for older children and adults in the Arts Tent. Visit the vibrant arts, crafts and farmer’s market where you’ll find beautiful glass ware, artisan products and homewares. Stroll across to the Mini Farm or Dog Show to meet the animals, or enjoy Pinxton Puppets and the Climbing Wall. Why not pop into the Kid’s Zone to find Diddi Dance, Crafts, Mini Professors and more? Or children can enjoy the ever popular Treasure Island show from M&M Theatrical Productions.
Around the village, in the library you can hear stories about World War 1 soldiers expertly told, and children will be able to join in with storytelling and craft sessions. The Scouts Centre will be a hive of activity where adults can try a Festival Workout and children can enjoy a fun French class. The canal is open for boat trips and the allotment for delicious fresh produce. Art lovers can appreciate work in St Thomas’ Church from Wednesday and lovers of technology can enter 3D worlds showcasing local talent through a virtual reality experience at Priestley College.
By night, the local venues shake off their daytime activities and invite visitors to enjoy a different Festival experience. Big draws for this year are the Comedy Night at the Slug and Lettuce, The Merchant of Venice open-air theatre, rock at the Festival Marquee and David Live, a Bowie tribute band.
While the Festival Marquee welcomes Viva la Coldplay tribute band, other local venues offer competitions, films, sporting activities and music ranging from swing, to musicals and the popular children’s gospel choirs.
