Warrington 4 Brexit join “Leave means leave” rally at parliament

A large contingent of the Warrington 4 Brexit Group joined the national “Leave means leave” march in London in support of Brexit.

Together with colleagues from Wigan Borough 4 Brexit they arrived at Whitehall to make their voice heard at the climax of the Leave Means Leave march which ended at Parliament Square on the day when the UK had been due to leave the EU – Friday 29th March – before Parliament voted to extend Article 50 and delay the UK’s departure.

A Warrington 4 Brexit spokesperson said: “It was important for Warringtonians to be outside Parliament on this day to show we are willing to stand up for democracy. We believe that Westminster has betrayed the greatest democratic vote in UK history. For many of us this is bigger than Brexit now – it’s about democracy itself. MPs must never think that they are a privileged class who can rule over us without democratic accountability.

“Being elected to Parliament does not give you a fee pass to rip up your party manifesto. We remind Warrington’s MPs yet again that they stood on a Labour manifesto which promised to respect
the 2016 referendum result and bring an end to freedom of movement, which means leaving the Single Market.

“Both Warrington MPs, Helen Jones and Faisal Rashid voted for the so called “Common Market 2.0” last week in the House of Commons, which advocates full participation in the Single Market (which would require freedom of movement) plus a Customs Union and would leave the UK subject to the bulk of EU laws and regulations.”

The spokesperson continued: “Furthermore, Mr. Faisal Rashid voted in favour of a second referendum and also in favour of an SNP motion to revoke Article 50 – this is truly outrageous for an MP who stood at the last election on a manifesto promise to honour the 2016 referendum result. The decision by the British people to leave the EU must now be implemented.”

Warrington 4 Brexit will now concentrate on planning its political strategy carefully – their spokesperson adding: “There is a strong possibility of European elections or a General Election
imminently. We are preparing to campaign at these elections to ensure that candidates who are genuinely pro-Brexit, win seats representing Warrington.”
