FORMER borough and parish councillor Chris Vobe is bidding to make a political comeback by contesting the forthcoming Peel Hall parish by election.
Chris, who stood down from three cllr roles in May 2016, will contest the seat for Labour which has been brought about by the resignation of Labour parish Cllr. David Williams
The Peel Hall ward forms part of Winwick Parish Council but is located in the Poplars and Hulme borough council seat.
Chris, the son of Warrington North MP Helen Jones, is a former Borough and Parish Councillor, who has lived in Warrington North for 20 years. He has been closely involved in the fight to Save Peel Hall, supporting local residents in their opposition to development of the site by Satnam Investments Ltd.
He attended the recent public enquiry into the plans, helped to gather support in opposition to the original application which came before Warrington Borough Council, and has strong ties with the local community in the Peel Hall ward.
He stood down from Warrington Borough Council, Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, where he was the youngest ever chairman, and from Croft Parish Council at the May 2016 elections “due to a wide variety of other commitments which are placing increasing demands on my time.”
But he has never been far from the local political scene campaigning on local issues with Labour colleagues.
Chris said: “I am delighted to be standing as the Labour Party candidate in this important by-election on 6th September. I would be honoured to represent residents in Poplars and Hulme on the Parish Council.
“I am determined to ensure that residents here have a strong voice to speak out on their behalf. My opposition to development on land at Peel Hall has been steadfast – if I’m elected, I won’t waver in that opposition, and I won’t be afraid to stand up to Satnam and make the case for North Warrington. Protecting green spaces, and ensuring that we retain a thriving and vibrant local community, will be at the heart of my agenda.
“I’ll also be working closely with our local Labour Borough Councillors in Poplars and Hulme – to bring inward investment to Peel Hall ward, to tackle traffic bottlenecks, improve our environment, and make sure that our streets and open spaces are clean and well maintained. A vote for me on 6th September is a vote to take a stand against the developers and elect a councillor who won’t allow anyone to ride roughshod over our community.”
Poplars and Hulme Borough Councillor Hilary Cooksey added: “We are delighted to welcome Chris to the Labour team in Poplars and Hulme. At every level – from Parliament, to the Town Hall, to the Parish Council – Labour has a strong track record of supporting residents and delivering results. Voting for Chris on 6th September will strengthen our team and ensure that Poplars and Hulme residents have the representation they deserve,”
Residents in Peel Hall are welcome to get in touch with Chris at any time by phoning 01925 419 481 or emailing chrisvobe@googlemail.com.
Poll cards will be issued by Winwick Parish Council.
