A DRIVER was trapped in his badly damaged car at Warrington this morning after a collision involving a HGV.
The incident was in Grappenhall Lane, Appleton,shortly before 6am.
Three fire engines were sent to the scene and a major rescue unit from Winsford was also drafted in. Firefighters used specialist cutting gear to free the trapped man.
After the man was extricated from his car he was handed over to paramedics and taken to hospital.
The incident left the road blocked in both directions for about one and-a-half hours.
Police diverted traffic during the rescue operation.
